Ways to Earn – Advertising - Let's Learn About Ads!

Ways to Earn – Advertising - Let's Learn About Ads!

Ads help promote blog posts, products and services offered by citizens and merchants, as well as outside websites.

What's the purpose of creating ads?

Ads are used to drive views to blog posts and customers to products and services in the marketplace.

When an ad you created and/or funded gets clicked on:

  • You earn each time someone views a blog post
  • You get a commission on any product or service that is purchased

Any earnings you make based on your ads will be reported within 24-48 hours.

How do ads help the entire empowr community?

When a citizen purchases ads, they aren't just making a profit for themselves. Money spent on ads goes into the economy and pays citizens all over the world for their posts.

Success Coaches Responsibilities & ads

Coaches should know how to create quality ads and how to share this knowledge with clients. Success Coaches review and approve all their clients’ ads before they are displayed on empowr.

Let’s walk through the types of ads, how to create great ads, and how to review them.

Types of Ads

1) Ads for your posts: extend the earning period for your post beyond the initial 24 hours by creating an ad for your posts.
2) Ads for other people's posts: earn from other citizens' success by creating ads to promote their posts and share in their earnings.
3) Ads for marketplace listings: promote your listing or other people’s listings, and earn when someone clicks on your ad and makes a purchase.
4) Ads for external websites: create an ad for your external site to generate traffic and interest. You will not earn on empowr for promoting external sites.

Let me show you how to create a really good ad.

To earn from your ads, make your ads to stand out so they get noticed and clicked on.

Take a little time to create a good ad and you'll achieve far better results than someone who quickly put up 10 low quality ads with spelling errors, an unrelated image, and meaningless text.

The text box on your ad is your chance to connect with a potential reader or product/services buyer in 135 characters or less, think about goes there!

Reviewing Ads

Parts of an Ad

Here are the parts of an ad, how they should look and why they matter.

What Does a Good Ad Look Like?

Let's say you want to publish a post with the best chocolate chip cookie recipe ever.

How would you advertise it? You want people to notice and click your ad AND stay on your post!

Not-So-Good Ad

Would you click this ad?

Does this ad tell you what you will find when you click it?

The title is not written in title case.
(Title case means the first letter of every word is capitalized).

The image doesn't tell you what the ad is about.

The text of an ad is always written in proper sentence form. This ad text isn't even a sentence.

The search terms do not relate to a post about a chocolate chip cookie recipe.

Good Ad!

This is an ad for the same post.

Your reader can see the title (written in title case), it tells you it's a cookie recipe and it promises to be delicious.

The image of a cookie looks delicious and the ad text, written in sentence form, says this delicious cookie recipe can be made fast and easy.

Your potential reader clicks and stays on your post because they know what they are getting.

3-Fast and Easy Ad Moderation

Ad moderation helps clients create great ads, which increases their earning potential.

Here is how to moderate an ad in 6 easy steps.

Before you begin - Check the Ad Language

1) Ad language: The ad language should match the post language. If the language does not match reject the ad. After the ad is published the language designation cannot be changed. Always let your clients know the reason you rejected the ad. Take a screen shot of the ad to show your client so they can check their language too. 9 times out of 10, it was overlooked. empowr currently supports 45 different languages on the platform.

If the ad language matches the post move on to the ad title.

2) Ad title: Is the ad title related to the post being advertised? Does it make sense? Does it fit within the 25 character limit? Is it written in title case, and is it spelled correctly? If not, correct it.

3) Ad picture: Does the ad picture relate to the post being advertised? If not, change it. Use sites such as Google Images or http://www.tinypic.com to find an appropriate ad picture. Ad pictures should not include copyrighted logos, including the "Johnny Cash" and "empowr" logos.

4) Ad text: Is the ad text written in full sentences and spelled correctly? Does it give the reader an idea of what the advertised post will be about? Does it fit within the 135 character limit? Is there correct punctuation?

5) Ad Costs: Does the ad have a Daily Budget that will at least pay for the first click?

6) Search terms: Are there at least 4 search terms that relate to the advertised post?

Do NOT add more search terms yourself, because you may add a popular term with a very high CPC, or a term which your client would not wish to use. Search terms are very important as they determine who sees your Ad based on interests that relate to those search terms chosen.

Success Coaches should follow the above criteria, reject ads when necessary, and provide feedback on enhancing ads. Success Coaches must maintain an 80% moderation score, which means 80% of the ads they approve should need no further moderation.

Put the following links on your Browser bar so to grab them quickly when you’re moderating ads:

Ad Restrictions

Some ads are not allowed on empowr. Examples include:

  • ads about affiliate marketing or MLM programs (Amazon, etsy or eBay)
  • ads promoting “get rich quick” scams
  • ads promoting violence, nudity, pornography or offensive material
  • ads promoting racism or hatred towards particular groups of people
  • ads for blogs containing one photo

Where do you go to moderate your clients' ads?

Go to the “Teach” tab on the left navigation bar. Next to their profile name, you’ll see the number ads they have pending approval – click on this number to bring up all their pending ads.

The next page will display an ad awaiting approval. On the right side you’ll see the ad. Scroll through each tab, and use the criteria described above to approve or disapprove the ad. Provide feedback to the client if rejecting their ad. Click “Process” when done, and move on to the next ad.

4- Ad Daily Budget and Funding
Now you know the basics of putting together a great ad; let's look at ad costs and daily budget.

Ad Costs

What determines the ad costs?

Citizens set a daily budget for how much they want to spend on each ad. This amount will pay for a certain number of clicks. The cost to you per click on your ads is determined based on the supply and demand for ads with similar Search Terms (tags)

  • The CPC (cost per click) for each Search Term (tag) is updated daily
  • The PPC (Price Per Click) that you pay is determined by the total value of all 6 of your search terms added up at the time of the click
  • The lowest CPC (Cost Per Click) to choose is $0.01.
  • The Ad Click Rate is the percent rate of how many times someone clicked on your ad based on how many times it was seen. The cost of your ads is inserted into your balance daily.

You pay ONLY when someone clicks your ad. Ads for marketplace listings can lose money if people are clicking on the ads, but not purchasing the items they are advertising.

How can citizens choose to pay for Ads?

If you're purchasing ads, you can utilize Ad Credits, top up from PayPal, a credit card, or your matured earnings. You cannot send money via U.S. Mail.
  • Ad credits earned become part of your Ad Credit spending limit and can be utilized for your ads immediately (no maturation required).
  • Ads for external websites can only be paid for with outside payments (PayPal or credit card)
  • When you purchase ads, any Ad Credits you have available will be spent first. (Note: when purchasing products, your matured balance will be spent first)

Understanding Ad Daily Budget

Your "Daily Budget" is the maximum amount you want to spend daily on that ad. Each ad has its own Daily Budget.

Money is reserved to pay for the daily budget chosen for your ads each day. If you have 3 ads running for $5, $10 and $2 per day for daily budgets, the total reserved each day for your daily budget would be $17. This is shown as "pending" in your balance.

The lowest Daily Budget you can set is $1.00.

You may edit your Daily Budget or your ad length (the dates your ad will run) at any time.

To edit any ad, go to “My Ads” under “Advertise”. Click on the ad you would like to edit and hit “Ok” when done.

What happens after my Daily Budget is reached?

Ads can continue to run after the Daily Budget is utilized. Other citizens can continue to fund your ad through Ad Campaigns.

Ad Campaigns fund all clicks on ads shown after their full Daily Budget is utilized. If your ad is funded by an Ad Campaigns, each time the ad is clicked you will still earn. Earnings are shared with other citizens that helped fund the ad.

What if my Daily Budget isn’t fully utilized?

Your Daily Budget is only used up if enough people click on your ad. Leftover funds can be used for other citizen’s ads.

To do this, you click "Utilize Entire Daily Budget," and earn for purchasing the other’s ads if your ad does not fully utilize its daily budget.

If you do not select “Utilize Entire Daily Budget” any unused funds will be returned the following day to your bank.

If an ad is not performing, stop funding the ad and create a better performing ad.

When clients are struggling to earn with ads, ask if their account is optimized for earnings and recommend they do so.
